Duties & Responsibilities
The Treasury Executive will play a key support role within the Treasury Department, contributing across various functional areas including liquidity management, asset-liability management, institutional relationships, cash operations and trading. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to engage in financial markets, with a focus on optimising returns and profitability, collaborating cross-functionally with Risk and Finance teams, and supporting the Bank’s regulatory and internal control objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commercial understanding, sound analytical skills, and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
The person in this function will be responsible to:
Liquidity and Balance Sheet Management
- assist in daily monitoring of liquidity positions and ensure regulatory ratios (LCR, NSFR) are met;
- support the ALM function with data collection, reconciliations and internal reporting; and
- contribute to projections and analysis of cash flow, intraday liquidity, and funding needs.
Trading & Execution Support
- provide support to the trading desks (FX, Fixed Income) by maintaining trade records, preparing valuation reports, and assisting with execution-related documentation;
- ensure trade activities comply with risk limits and are reported accurately;
- assist in preparation of daily pricing, reporting and market commentaries; and
- use derivatives for the hedging of investment assets, where necessary.
Institutional Relationships & Correspondent Banking
- support the review and onboarding of financial institutions, including gathering of KYC/AML documentation;
- assist in monitoring and updating institutional credit limits and risk assessments; and
- help maintain accurate contact records and terms of engagement for counterparties.
Cash Management & Operations
- liaise with internal stakeholders and outsourced partners to ensure efficient replenishment of cash across the Bank's branches and vaults;
- support in monitoring ATM operations, currency stock levels, and cash logistics; and
- assist in preparation and submission of Central Bank reporting related to cash operations.
Governance, Policies & Compliance
- ensure compliance with Treasury policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements (MFSA, CBM, ECB);
- assist in updating procedural manuals and contribute to audit readiness; and
- support in gathering information for internal and regulatory reporting.
Other Ad-Hoc Tasks
- assist in producing reports for senior management;
- assist with other operational duties as required from time to time; and
- perform all other duties requested from the Senior Manager or Head of Treasury from time to time.
Skills
The potential candidate should be reliable and trustworthy, well-organised with a disposition to learn and have a team-oriented approach.
You must have:
- knowledge of Treasury, and have commercial understanding of the business;
- understanding of treasury products and financial markets, such as securities, interest rates and FX;
- strong analytical skills with the ability to translate insights into commercially sound decisions;
- strong verbal and written communication skills in Maltese and English;
- the ability to interact and communicate effectively and work collaboratively across the organisation;
- the ability to prioritise and work in a fast-paced, high-energy, deadline-driven environment;
- an inquisitive, energetic, pro-active mindset and with an eagerness to learn;
- a team oriented and enthusiastic approach, be self-motivated and have an eye for detail;
- good knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); and
- significant knowledge of Treasury activities and appropriate controls.
Knowledge and Experience
You must:
- possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking & Finance, Economics, Statistics, Business, or another related field. CFA (can be currently on-going) or equivalent is a plus; and
- have a minimum of 5 years experience in a banking environment, ideally within Treasury functions or in a closely related role.
