Duties and responsibilities
The person in this role is expected to lead and manage the Bank’s retail operations across the assigned geographic area (North, Central, or South), ensuring strategic alignment, operational consistency, and customer satisfaction. The Area Head provides strategic oversight, direction, and support to all branches within the area, driving business growth, operational consistency, and service excellence while fostering a culture of compliance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
You are responsible to:
- deputise for the Head of Retail in cross-functional and strategic initiatives, as required;
- lead the assigned area in achieving business objectives, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency;
- translate the Bank’s retail strategy into actionable regional plans, ensuring alignment with overall business goals;
- actively contribute to the Retail Department’s strategic initiatives and projects, supporting organisation-wide transformation and innovation;
- oversee and enhance area-wide performance by ensuring alignment with key performance indicators and strategic objectives. Foster a high-performance culture through clear goal setting, continuous performance tracking, and regular, constructive feedback;
- conduct regular reviews with Senior Branch Managers and Branch Managers to assess progress and identify improvement areas;
- provide strategic leadership and mentorship to Senior Branch Managers and Branch Managers, driving consistent performance and fostering a culture of leadership growth;
- champion succession planning by identifying high-potential talent and supporting their development to ensure a strong pipeline of future leaders;
- foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement;
- drive area-wide business growth through targeted initiatives and market responsiveness;
- ensure consistent customer experience and service standards across all branches;
- lead the rollout of new initiatives, systems, and processes within the area, acting as a change champion, ensuring staff engagement and adaptability;
- ensure operational soundness, risk management, and compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies across all branches. Mitigate risks through proactive oversight and contingency planning; and
- represent the Bank in community and stakeholder engagements, building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external partners.
Competencies and experience
The potential candidate should be reliable and trustworthy, well-organised with a disposition to learn and have a team-oriented approach.
You must have:
- a minimum of 10 years' experience within the Banking sector, with at least 4 years at branch management level within retail banking;
- proven ability to lead multi-branch retail operations or equivalent large teams;
- strong leadership and people management skills, with experience in coaching, feedback, and performance management;
- excellent strategic thinking and commercial acumen, with a proven track record in driving retail performance, achieving commercial objectives, and maintaining high customer satisfaction;
- sound understanding of financial reporting, compliance requirements, and operational controls;
- a positive attitude, adaptability to change, and commitment to continuous improvement; and
- a commitment to digital innovation, data-driven decision-making, and fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Having a degree either in Banking and Finance, Business Management, or Economics (or a related field) will be considered an asset.
