Duties and responsibilities
The Legal Advisor will form part of the Bank’s Legal Department, with a primary focus on vetting the necessary searches to ensure that any hypothecary security registered in favour of the Bank adequately safeguards the Bank’s interests. The role also involves working closely with internal departments by providing legal guidance on hypothecary security, while liaising with external stakeholders to support a professional and efficient process for customers.
The Legal Advisor (Vetting) will be responsible for:
- Vetting of relevant documentation to ensure that hypothecary security to be registered in favour of the Bank aligns with the Bank’s requirements;
- Drawing up of pre-deed and post-deed reports, highlighting the Bank’s position in relation to the ranking of the hypothecary security;
- Liaising with internal departments to provide the necessary legal advice on the risks associated with the searches being vetted;
- Liaising with external stakeholders, such as Notaries, Public Registry, Land Registry and other banks to ensure that the Bank’s hypothecary security is duly perfected;
- Appearing on public deeds for the purpose of granting facilities, registering of hypothecs and privileges, postponemanets, waivers and cancellations as needed;
- Carrying out any other duties that may be required to achieve and exceed Department’s objectives as defined from time to time.
Competencies and Experience
The Legal Advisor (Vetting) should have a positive attitude, be well-organised with a disposition to learn and a meticulous approach to work.
The Legal Advisor (Vetting) must:
- Must hold an LL.D. or LL.M with a valid warrant to practice as an Advocate in Malta
- have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
- have excellent command of English and Maltese (both written and verbal);
- Previous experience in banking or vetting of searches is considered an asset.
